At GenCon I was set up with my laptop and tablet, sketching for the public to see on a very large monitor. A few small updates to the RHP website- new portraits for Roza and Aryon, and a small layout change on the story page. Only 3 more pages until the story ends! It’s been almost a year in the making O_O

A coffee-drinking devil girl character. She always wears winter clothes and drinks coffee ’cause the surface world’s a lot chillier than Hell. She’d be fun to put in a comic or something but I don’t have a solid plan for her now. She’s been around a while but these are the first sketches worth scanning.

I’m still working on the next RHP page, but here’s a highlight:

It felt like this page took an eternity to finish, but it came out pretty well. The fist panel especially has nice coloring. I’d like to go more in depth into Ayron’s history, and how he became the prince of the small village of horse-people when he’s obviously more human in most regards, but that’ll [...]

Forests are way more fun to draw/paint than dingy old jail cels. Also, this is the first time I got to use Roza and co’s actual ‘daytime’ colors, so I was pretty picky about it.
I hope the goat in the last panel doesn’t come off as too ominous or significant- I just thought it’d be [...]

I like the glowy magic horsey panel a lot, but I really botched the rest. I try to cram as much content into each page as possible, I guess in part because it’s a weekly update and in part due to my eagerness to push the story along. This page would’ve worked better with more [...]

Some concepts for a creature in Roza’s future adventures…

We finally get a good look at the ‘real’ Ayron!
It’s hard to hold back on the dialogue. I’m trying to keep it light, but the characters don’t want to shut up! I think future ‘Roza’ chapters will require more dialogue, just because Roza will be around more humans and less non-talking magical horse types. Hopefully [...]

Notice how the style of the comic is evolving? It’s becoming a lot more digital and animated-looking.
Also, it’s hard to tell, but the goat is wagging his tail :)

The Good Cheese webcomic has found a new home, once again.

After a nearly 3-year run on the subscription manga site Wirepop, the comic entered a hiatus. I don’t have time to update the comic regularly, but rather than let it languish and take up space on someone else’s server, I’ve moved it back to my [...]

I updated my portfolio at junglestudio.com with a new, minimalist site design. It’s pretty sparse but the focus is on the selection of artwork, not website design or other fluff.

I’m on a roll!
Actually, I’ve been working on this for a while. The new design should allow for more user discussion, as well as techy features like automatic updates and page navigation. It’s the same engine as this site and Drawfurry.com, so hopefully it will quickly become familiar.

I like Roza’s shiney effects :D
It’s kind of a ‘cheap’ Photoshop combo of overlay and screen layer effects… but looks so pretty and magic-y!
All these pages I work in really high res, so it’s sometimes a disappointment to see expressive details lost in the web sized version. For an example, check the panel below. [...]
