New Roza site design

Written by Kelly on July 1st, 2007

I’m on a roll!

Actually, I’ve been working on this for a while. The new design should allow for more user discussion, as well as techy features like automatic updates and page navigation. It’s the same engine as this site and Drawfurry.com, so hopefully it will quickly become familiar.
I’ll try and post more updates there as my work on Chapter Two advances.

=-NOTE: Off topic from site design, but it seems to be only way to contact you and ask you something=-

MESSAGE SUMMERY: I wanna ask you a few questions regarding Good Cheese and to ask for permission to write fan fiction for GC.

Hi. For starters, this seems to be a great web comic and seems to be pretty interesting so far. Keep up the good work! – :D – I also have a few questions in relation to this world of yours. Mainly because I’ve always been wondering, and also that I’m a bit of a Fan Fiction writer (All my fan fiction work is nonprofit and is created for reader’s eyes) and I want to create a story based off of your world. I like to take people’s story and give it a bit of a twist to it (add in a new character, change certain situations, etc.). But I do try to stay true to the characters as best I can. I will–of course–credit the original creator (that’s you), and give a web link if I ever make a website for my stuff. Although using other people’s ideas for creating stories my not be that original, I hope this’ll help me brush up on my writing skills for whenever I create my own original work. Is it okay to create some fan fiction based off your world (same characters, same environment, same school, etc.; but w/ a new character)?

Now onto my questions. I have a few questions in regards to parts of your world that hasn’t been explained yet.

    - How closely similar is the real world and the one you created (Good Cheese)?
    - Are the animals the same, or are they different?
    - What do they call themselves as a whole (like we call ourselves humans; and if they do call themselves a name as a whole)?
    - How good is their sense of smell?

I know it’s only four questions, but these are the only real questions that I have to ask. And the main reason for me asking (if I create the Fan Fiction) is that I don’t want to accidentally take your world the wrong way and go away from your original concept by accident. As for the rest of the stuff like culture, activities, video games, etc; it seems mostly like our world, except for the appearance of the people. So that wouldn’t be a problem.

If you have any questions/concerns, then let me know. As for the story, it is about a human from this world who wakes up in your world as a wolf and has to learn to live a new life, make new friends, etc. No action, no other fantasy elements, that’s it.

Zian – no problem, thanks for your advice on the portfolio site design :)

Lee – Thanks! Fan fiction is fine as long as you link the original comic, credit me as original creator, and make sure to let folks know that it’s not ‘canon’ to the comic. Also, I still retain all rights to the characters, comic story, GC as a concept, etc.

The world of GC is for all intents the same as ours. The setting though is more late-90’s than current, since that’s when I was in high school. Characters are whatever species I felt looked right or best fit their personality. In an earlier version of the comic there was a bird character, but I decided later to stick with mammals. They’d use the word ‘people’ or ‘person’ or maybe ‘all creatures’ instead of ‘humanity’. Sense of smell would be within normal human range but perhaps exceptionally good in species known for it, such as canines.

What I meant by “Are the animals the same, or are they different?”, I was referring to pets or wild animals (cats, dogs, etc.).

Not sure what you’re asking exactly, but there’s a mix of wild animals and a couple domestic varieties (goats and cats so far).

I was asking if there are wild animals like the ones in our world (bears, wolves, rabbits, etc.), or are we talking about completely different animals?

And onto my final questions. Does it matter who marries who? Is a Lynx marrying a Squirrel considered unusual? Since your comic so far only focuses on the students and not on the parents, it’s hard to tell from what I’ve read so far. All I want to know is if there’s cross breeding or if it’s strictly within species. The story will cover family issues and identity issues as well as school issues, so that’s why I’m asking.

Oh, there would be wild animals the same as in our world. Although I don’t think any of the characters would have pets, that would just be a bit much.

Species intermarry, although it’s not terribly common. The younger generation is more open-minded. Most of the GC characters have parents of the same species. The children would take after one parent or the other, instead of a hybrid.
